Signature Programs

HMA Signature Programs Overview

HMA has a long history of providing cutting-edge patient services at our hospitals, and we pride ourselves not only for our superior medical services, but for the signature programs that we are able to offer each of our patients. These signature services include: Nurse First, ProMed, MedKey™, One Call Scheduling and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

Nurse First is a program designed to shorten the waiting time for ER patients and to determine which patients require more immediate attention. Nurse First is even more important in smaller communities. It is commonplace for patients to arrive at the ER without aving a regular physician. Since more than half our patients enter our hospitals through the ER doors, we know that a positive initial impression often determines whether an individual will return to our hospitals when other medical needs arise.

 Pro-Med
ProMed is a computer-accessed diagnostic tool that helps doctors assess a patient’s condition, formulate a diagnosis and suggest a course of treatment. When combined with the Nurse First program, our ER services reach patients two to three times faster than the national average of five to six hours.

Med-Key

MedKey™ is a bar-coded identification card that our hospitals provide to local residents, free of charge. It contains basic patient information that streamlines the admission and registration process and, in some instances, can help speed medical treatment. At year end, more than a million MedKey™ cards were in use in communities where we operate hospitals.

One-Call Scheduling    One-Call Scheduling is a dedicated phone system which physicians and their staff can use to schedule various diagnostic tests and other services.  By having a dedicated scheduler with a central phone number to schedule all testing and diagnostic procedures before admission, HMA is creating a more efficient and pleasant environment for both physicians and patients.

Safe Scan

SafeScan™ - HMA is among the first in the nation to introduce the revolutionary SafeScan technology, which ensures the right medications are given to the right patients, in the right doses, at the right times. HMA Nurses use these wireless devices – linked real time to pharmacy information – to scan barcodes and to enter required documentation to assure safety through accurate medication administration.

Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

It is unfortunate that less than 10% of American hospitals have implemented health information technology like electronic medical records (EMR), while a mere 16% of primary care physicians use electronic health records (EHR). The vast majority of healthcare transactions in the United States still take place on paper, a system that has remained unchanged since the 1950s.

HMA is proud to have selected NextGen® as our national provider for EMR technology in affiliated physician offices. We are currently implementing their state-of-the-art software in each of our affiliated physician practices and will eventually offer it to any physician in all HMA hospital markets as a solution to physician practice EMR needs.  HMA hospitals are currently converting to a records management system that converts paper documents to electronic media.

HMA is committed to converting to EMR platforms in all markets and linking physician office systems to hospital systems in order to facilitate a community health record that will  assure that our patients' medical records are consistent, secured and accessed in the most time-efficient manner as to continue our reputation for exceptional patient care.
